WATCH CARE & MAINTENENCE
In order to maintain the appearance, precision and longevity of your watch, certain steps and procedures must be considered and followed. By servicing your VARIUS watch regularly, you can significantly extend the life span and ensure that it keeps operating properly for a lifetime. Here are some tips to help you preserve your timepiece.
To request a service or repair please download/print and complete the service order form. You can download it here.
Water Resitance
THE CROWN: This part of a watch is the most important factor in ensuring the water resistance of your watch. Always make sure the crown on your watch is screwed down completely before starting your day, journey or next adventure. Water resistance should be tested on your VARIUS watch or any other watch in your collection every one to two years.
A watch’s water resistance cannot be permanently guaranteed. The sealing gaskets in the crown, pushers, crystal or case back age and corrode over time because of many factors that may allow the infiltration of water. Because of this we only guarantee our watches for two years for water resistance. If you want to insure your watches water resistance, we can recommend a service center in the USA or you can send it to us to be serviced in Switzerland.
REGULAR CLEANING
CLEANING THE TITANIUM CASE AND BRACELET: While titanium is highly resistant to corrosion you should still rinse it with fresh water to remove any salt water as you would do with any 316L stainless steel watch. To maintain the appearance of your titanium watch, clean it regularly with a soft cloth and warm (not hot) water. Always avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemical cleaners that could damage the watch's finish. If you want to remove surface scratches from your watch or bracelet check out this video here.
MOVEMENT MAINTENENCE
AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: All of the component parts of your VARIUS watch are manufactured from the best materials available. However, some of these parts are subject to wear.
VARIUS watches should be overhauled approximately every three to five years, or as soon as there is a sign of malfunction. For watches worn in water, it’s important to have them tested for water resistance every two years, as the sealing gaskets age and corrode when exposed to water.
During the complicated process of servicing, the watch will be opened, disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and inspected for any signs of wear or damage. All the gaskets (rings that form a seal) will be replaced ensuring that humidity and water does not infiltrate the watch.
Please refer to our WATCHES page to get comfortable with setting your time and date.
HOW MUCH DOES A SEVICE COST?
SERVICE: There is a cost that is associated with getting a watch serviced. Although it varies from watch to watch and depends on how complicated your watch is, it's safe to say that most mechanical watch services cost roughly $100 to $1,000, depending on the watch's complexity and what needs to be replaced.
The time needed to service a watch largely depends on what kind of watch you have and the scope of the work required. A normal, routine servicing should take a few weeks but a more complex servicing will increase this timeframe.
Remember, a mechanical watch has more parts than a car engine, and just like your car, it needs regular servicing in order to run properly. With proper maintenance and care, your VARIUS watch should last a lifetime.
DO QUARTZ WATCHES NEED SERVICING?
YES! Although quartz watches have far fewer moving parts than mechanical watches, they still need the same maintenance and servicing as mechanical watches in regards to case/bracelet cleaning along with battery and gasket replacement.
